Established in 1978, KRG Specialist Engineering has expanded from a small family workshop into one of Lanarkshire’s leading precision engineering businesses, supplying high‑accuracy components to industries such as defence, oil and gas, and manufacturing.
The Coatbridge‑based company now employs a skilled workforce and remains strongly influenced by the family principles on which it was built, including craftsmanship, reliability and a commitment to developing its people.
Ashton’s arrival reinforces those values and demonstrates the company’s long‑standing dedication to nurturing local talent. Following the tradition set by earlier generations, he is beginning his career on the workshop floor, learning practical skills and gaining experience across the business.
In a statement, Gerry Hughes, Managing Director of KRG, said: “This is a very proud moment for me personally and for everyone at KRG. I started out as an apprentice here, just as Ashton is doing now, and I know the value of learning the business from the ground up.
“My father started this company more than 45 years ago, and to see Ashton now step into the business shows the strength of that legacy.
“Our roots in Coatbridge have always been our foundation, and having a third generation involved makes that foundation even stronger for the future.”
