Midlands manufacturing firms sign up to ‘VORS’ to target multi-billion-pound opportunity

2 mins read

Three leading Midlands manufacturing and design firms have joined forces to seize a multi-billion-pound opportunity across the medical, life sciences, defence and security sectors.

VORS

Global outsourcing firm PP Control & Automation (PP C&A), electronics design and software developer ByteSnap Design, and contract electronics manufacturer Kasdon have together launched VORS (Versatile Outsourcing in Resilient Systems): a new collaboration aimed at helping the Ministry of Defence (MoD), prime contractors and major OEMs to accelerate time-to-market and ensure compliance in highly regulated sectors.

By offering an integrated, end-to-end service spanning design, development, manufacturing, and assembly, VORS positions itself as a single accountable partner for the entire product lifecycle – from prototyping and new product introduction (NPI) through to full-scale production.

The alliance, which employs over 280 people and generates annual revenues exceeding £45 million, is designed to deliver supply chain resilience and attract both domestic and international orders.

In a statement, Richard Spears of PP C&A, said: “The collaboration began as Government announcements on defence spending and investment emerged. We quickly recognised that these sectors demand highly regulated product and system development, alongside a specific capability set. Kasdon and ByteSnap bring proven expertise in electronics and design, which complements our manufacturing outsourcing capabilities to deliver a complete lifecycle solution for new clients.”

Despite the website only recently launching, the partners said that discussions are already underway with several potential customers, representing opportunities worth over £5 million for the partnership.

While medical, life sciences, and defence and security operate in distinct markets, they share common expectations when selecting manufacturing partners – stringent compliance, robust quality standards and rapid innovation, for instance.

VORS is well-positioned to meet these demands, thanks to significant investment in automation and quality accreditations, including ISO 13485, across all three businesses. This ensures products perform flawlessly in safety-critical or life-dependent applications.

Steve Stockley, Managing Director of Kasdon, said: “Resilient systems is the perfect term to describe the demands placed on products in these sectors. They operate in high-stakes, often harsh environments, requiring long lifecycle performance, robust supply chain security, and strict regulatory compliance. That’s exactly what VORS delivers.”

Dunstan Power, Director at ByteSnap Design, added: “Sector initiatives like the MOD’s Defence SME Action Plan and the NHS MedTech Funding Mandate are driving closer collaboration with SMEs.

"These programmes aim to simplify procurement, improve access to opportunities, and increase engagement with innovative suppliers. VORS aligns perfectly with these objectives, and we’re excited to harness these opportunities. Success will not only benefit our clients but also create new jobs in the Midlands region.”
